Circumstances at the beginning of last century favoured the setting up of factories for the production of kitchen utensils in metal in the area at the northernmost tip of our Lake Orta: these little enterprises were to bring worldwide fame to that locality for household appliances.

It is hard to imagine that in no more than 4 kilometres (the distance between Omegna and Crusinallo) there could be such a high concentration of industrial excellence, which generated the invention of objects now commonly used in our kitchens ranging from the Moka coffee maker (by BIALETTI) to the pressure cooker (by LAGOSTINA) and the electric blender (by GIRMI).

The most outstanding name of all, ALESSI S.p.A., known throughout the world for the high standard of its products was founded in 1921 as a metalurgical workshop and foundry.

At the end of the nineteen-seventies Alberto Alessi collaborated with a number of international designers, such as Achille Castiglioni and Ettore Sottsass, and from then on the firm resolved to produce beautiful and practical objects that would bring pleasure to people's lives.

The company philosophy to fulfil people's dreams through creative design has led to the creation of real icons like the juice squeezer Starck, the kettle with the little bird by Graves and the dome-shaped coffee maker by Aldo Rossi.

Alberto Alessi says: “ Our main role is not that of producing lamps or coffee machines. It is more one of being artistic mediators with on the one hand, the finest expression of international design and on the other, the so-called market requirements, the needs of society or, as I prefer to say, people's dreams”.
